Kirby 3.8.4

Translating

The Panel offers easy ways to translate its UI into the user's language.

When you create your custom Panel views, fields, sections or else, you should support that any visible text can be translated into the user's preferred language. Our Panel has built-in support for this.

Providing i18n strings

You can feed the Panel all the strings to be translated as well as translations for all languages you want to support via the translations extension.

Example

/site/plugins/your-plugin/index.php
Kirby::plugin('your/plugin', [
    'translations' => [
        'en' => [
            'your.plugin.welcome' => 'Hi { name }!',
            'your.plugin.export' => 'Export',
        ],
        'de' => [
            'your.plugin.welcome' => 'Hallo { name }!',
            'your.plugin.export' => 'Exportieren',
        ]
    ]
]);

Using strings in your Vue component

When working on your custom Vue UI components (e.g. for a view, a field etc.), you can use some helper methods to pull in the translated strings. The Panel will make sure to use the correct language for the user.

this.$t(key, data, fallback)

With this.$t() you can replace your static text with translated strings (you can omit the this. part in the <template> block of Vue's Single File Components).

<template>
  <div>
    <p>{{ $t('your.plugin.export') }}</p>
  </div>
</template>

You can pass an object with data to be interpolated into the string as second parameter and a fallback value as third parameter.

<p>{{ $t('your.plugin.welcome', { name: "Homer" }, "Welcome!") }}</p>

v-direction directive

In addition, you can use the v-direction directive on an HTML element to automatically apply the correct dir attribute to it.

<input v-direction />
